You may ask what a FABies’ is?
One of the best gifts you can give to someone that has Alzheimer’s or Dementia, is a Busy Blanket (or Fidget Blanket).
A Fidget, Fiddle, or Busy Activity Quilt/blanket is a small lap quilt/blanket that provides sensory and tactile stimulation for the restless or “fidgety” hands of someone with Alzheimer’s or Dementia and can also be used by patients recovering after a Stroke or brain injury.
These activity blankets help soothe the agitated fidgeting of these patients. Plus, the blankets help focus their attention, stimulate senses and exercise hand muscles.
This will help with sensory stimulation and keep their hands busy while occupying their mind to reduce the potential of agitation.
Fidget Quilts or Blankets provide sensory or tactile stimulation through the use of fabric choices, colours, value of colours next to one another, textures, and the use of accents or simple accessories such as pockets, laces, trims, appliqué, buttons, secured beads, ribbons, braids etc.
Bright and soothing colours are combined. The brighter colours to assist in cases where their eyesight may be a bit compromised and the softer colours add to the calming effect.
FABies are 500 x 500mm big, quilted and with loads of different activities, colours and textures, a soft fleece at the back.
All trim are double stitched and secured to withstand rough handling and frequent washing.
None of these blankies are identical and are designed with male and female patients in mind, made with extreme attention to detail and quality.
