LocalislekkerZA is a platform developed to showcase local artisanal products. The word Artisan stems from French origins, meaning a skilled craft worker who makes or creates items by hand; they are creative, imaginative, and purposeful people. LocalislekkerZA has made friendships, formed collaborations and sourced beautifully handcrafted products of the highest quality.
A brief summary of how LocalislekkerZA came to be. Shortly after South Africa’s hard lockdown in 2020, we launched LocalislekkerZA. In the process, Gift, Dumi and Ernest were brought on board as trainee artisans. Filled with ambition, they began learning their new weaving skill on our looms, and soon became a very big part of the LocalislekkerZA family with Charlene, director of Charlie G Designs and Melanie, director of Gosmic Designs & Development, both having design backgrounds, it was a perfect fit right from the start. We have always had a passion and love for textiles. Weaving is a niche craft that can potentially be passed on for generations. As such, we love sharing our passion with people by motivating them to come and experience it for themselves.
Within 18 months, we have grown from working out of a garage, to running a high-end store at the Prison Break market. During this time, we have achieved a significant goal when we were proudly awarded the Mohair Mark, thus becoming a part of the Mohair South Africa family. This symbol guarantees that our products contain only the finest Mohair Fibre.
We thrive on the fundamental values at the core of LocalislekkerZA: Empowering people, job creation, showcasing African talent, high quality products and supporting the small business.
